The reason why the Atlantic and Pacific oceans dont mix is because of density. Density is the measure of mass percent per unit volume. The lesser the density, the lighter the object will be. In this case, the Atlantic ocean contains much more salt which makes it much denser. On the other hand, the Pacific ocean is less salty hence its density is much lower. Now, this difference in density due to salinity, creates a barrier called a Halocline between the two oceans. So both of the oceans wont mix that easily.
